Abstract Artist - Kansas City
I follow where the canvas leads.
Large-scale works in acrylic. Palette-knife paintings on horizontal canvas that are raw, intuitive and built for the spaces we inhabit.
Creative PhilosophyI've spent years unlearning control. That means trusting the weight of the knife, the speed of my arm, the place a color wants to live. The work comes from surrender, not a plan.
Latest Work
"The best paintings arrive when I stop trying to make them."
Self-taught and working from a studio in Kansas City, Kevin Van Emburgh creates large-scale abstracts using palette knives on a mostly horizontal canvas. A practice rooted in physicality, speed and the willingness to let go. His work has been shown locally and internationally and held in private collections across the country.
His canvases hold feeling and energy without specifically depicting it. He sees himself not as the source of the work, but as the conduit through which creative energy finds its way onto the canvas.
